Lowest average April minimum since 1922

Provisional data from the Met Office has suggested that April 2021 saw the lowest average minimum temperature since 1922. The colder temperatures persisted through much of the month thanks to high pressure to the north & west of the UK keeping the UK under a predominately northerly airflow.

The remarkable statistics don't stop there, however. April 2021 was provisionally the sunniest on record for Scotland and Wales, beating the record set just last year in 2020, for the UK as a whole though, April 2021 looks likely to come in second for the sunniest on record, again narrowly beaten by April 2020.

High pressure also meant lots of dry weather across the UK with very little rainfall throughout much of the month, April 2021 looks likely to be one of the driest on record.
