Below average rainfall likely for April

Despite the cold & showery start to April it's now increasingly likely that rainfall will come in significantly below average across much of the UK for April. High pressure is expected to dominate the UK weather for the next 10-14 days & perhaps beyond.

The above chart is the current forecast from the ECM showing high pressure over the UK. This acts as a block diverting Atlantic low pressure systems northwards towards Iceland, and away from the UK.

The precipitation totals chart shows this well. Incredibly dry across much of Englands & Wales out to the 22nd April with Northern Ireland & south-west Scotland seeing the highest totals.
